I was chacing insurance quotes for an 18 y/o friend, his dad had a stroke and he is soon going to be driving his dad's 80 Series LC. JUSTCAR would insure him for 3rd Party Fire & Theft for $250.
Go online and get a quote from them.
- Ooops, I didn't read all the post to the end, good to see you got some cover.
you still on your P's suba?
If so that may be the reasoning, as on P's your not allowed to make any engine modification to the car...and they will probably see that not being an original engine as a modification...however thats assuming you didn't buy it like that.
thats the only reason I can think of as to why they would refuse you
EDIT: Hang on forget that just remembered your not in NSW :lol2: so wouldn't apply to you anyway....Doh!!
Hi Suba,
I replied to Jocks thread that was similar. I used to be insured for third party with AAMI but just swapped to Elders for both my fender and datsun, they were half the price of AAMI on third party, although I do have other insurances with them and my local rep is really good. (I'm 20)
Good that you got it sorted, if you ever have any troubles again though it would be worth giving them a call.
Nah mate. Been off them for a few years now. As for the mods; they were done befoer I bought the car. Converted by a professional, blue printed, signed off on with compliance tag saying it's all legit and road worthy...but they bastard insurance companies didn't wanna hear it.
Your best bet is an insurance broker - you may have to try several of these before success; the good ones are very good, but some are pretty mediocre.
In general, they will tend to place your insurance with whoever offers the best kickback, but this is not an issue in this case, where you simply want to get insurance.
Another possibility is where the company involved is unable to offer insurance because the vehicle is not a model in their computer, try going direct to their head office.

Hey Suba,
Your woes reflect a few of us here. I wrote of my experience in my 'crosseyed' thread in the S2 section. I'm 24 and had a deal of trouble getting insurance quotes, most were 'we don't insure under 25s' or 'There is no 1963 Land Rover in our list', just as your experience. Glad I have the original motor!
For third party, you will probably find your state motorists group, NRMA in NSW for example, will provide the most basic cover available, I think they have to by law as a government body.
Then there is the fun of describing how a Series has a removable hard roof, can be a utility, with seats in the back. Might be best not to joke about the lack of door locks either.

Ring RAC again and tell them its a defender (Im not joking)
My sister ran rac for years and all they do is put it down as an eatly model 110 and then give you third party.
I have had 2x series 3's under 3rd party and my last stage 1 was insured as 5k fire and theft
