Shame to ruin it by putting that motor into it.

I just don't see why you would take whats basically a smooth vehicle and swap a motor into it that will make it vibrate like a truck from the 70's. I also think that the vibrations will eventually crack the chassis. Its been a long time since I've driven a vehicle where the revision mirrors were useless unless I gave it a few revs.

There are much better diesels around these days for an engine swap when compared to an old truck motor.
    Cheers

you need to get in a defender even the Puma shakes the side mirrors that much they are pointless because you can't see out of them for longer than a split second

I am very dissapointed to hear such uninformed drivel from you Slunnie... This vehicle was posted in the isuzu section ages ago, including a long youtube vid. Have a watch and let us know if you think it vibrates too much.
FYI the 4BD1 was superseded by the 4HE1, which is almost identical, mechanical injection, etc, etc, (apart from being OHC and everything back-front), and used until 2007ish.

EDIT, here is the youtube vid:

Btw - my "old truck motor" has 360000km on it and still runs like new - I expect 3x that from it before a rebuild. How many k's does your TD5 have and how many more before the plastic head dowls fail???

Sorry Isuzurover, I had to snip the vid clip because computer was vibrating so badly that I couldn't read the screen.

If that one was a smooth one, then thats the first smooth one that Ive seen. Personally, my experiences have been mainly with the mil 110's and every one that I've seen vibrates their heads off.

I am though assuming that if you're have a personal dig at me and the TD5 motor rather than chatting the topic...... then I must be right, but you cant falsify my experiences with that motor.

If you're asking, my TD5 has 160,000km on it and it has a designed life of 500,000km I think, so about 31-32 years in my hands. When the time comes to do something with it - perhaps I should look at the 2.25D.... so much less to go wrong with it.

BTW, I'm not saying that its a bad motor at all, I'm only saying that I wouldn't fit it to a Disco2, just like I wouldn't fit it to a P38. Both of these vehicles are luxury vehicles and not utility vehicles.
    Cheers

LR fitted the gen./ind.-spec version. The truck version is a bit more refined. However either can be made to idle smoothly with some tweaks to idle speed and timing.

However I find it funny that you are saying the TD5 disco is a "luxury" vehicle and it is therefore sacrelidge to fit a 4BD1T. I have never found the TD5 to be all that smooth - at least in defender spec., and see DB's post above re the puma engine...

my personal experience driving a 4BD1T powered landrover was one to remember, once upon a time on the Rangier Rover's Farm in outset of Cooah , I had the opportunity to drive his Turbo Powered 4BD1T 120" , and whilst driving it the accelerator pedal got stuck to the floor causing the vehicle to take off in 2nd gear . but with quick thinking I managed to stop the vehilce from crashing into the back of his tracktor

I would describe driving a 4BD1 powered Landrover similar to holding a "Rattle Gun" close to your Chest and whilst holding it tight asking someone to Pull the Trigger and try and hang on to it for as long as possible.
