No, I never use gps.....I love the challenge of map to ground.....I learnt to naviagate the hard way in the army and became very good at it. I feel as if I'm insulting my intelligence having "something" giving me directions......I might be tempted to use in sydney or melbourne......no bugger it.....rather work it out myself.

I can read a gps, compass and can navigate......... the old-fartshioned way too:p
I looked into it a while ago, and after seeing this thread gave it a go. I think there are ways of doing advanced searches for more difficult caches, but I havn't looked into it while browsing on my phone (also use it for caching). The challenge of getting to hard to reach caches is appealing, but out of the 15 or so I have done most of them are just a insignificant spots with tiny (one was about 1cm x 2cm) containers in easy to find places, quite boring really. But there were a few that led me to some nice spots,most of which I grew up around, but it is good fun having a "reason" to go for a hike somewhere.
Weather permitting, I'll be taking the missus up the Watagans this weekend to have a look for a few, and possibly place one or two.

You needed another poll option for totally obsessed by Geocaching - that's me, as I head slowly past 900 for my first thousand finds! There are some simply awesome 4x4 caches out there, like 2 on Stockton Beach NSW, multiple caches all through the high country, caches all through the blue mountains, and some have been placed by NT parks and wildlife to entice people off the beaten track. I plan trips based purely around geocaching! My family team is as Lucy & Roo (the user name Lucy was gone :( when I joined).
Only did the old fashioned treasure hunt at school.

Yes we Geocache whenever we can. I think it is great way to take me to places I wouldn't normally go and so is good when visiting a town for the first time. We have released several travel bugs and move them around as much as we can.
only just saw this post when i curiously did a search on geocaching on the site...
Obviously, yep, we geocache, and consider our 'fender our cache recovery vehicle (to the extent that it's now officially considered a travel bug in its own right (with inclusion of TB sticker and code on front and rear windows!). We've knocked off just over 300 over the last year or so, and hidden about 11 of them ourselves around the place.
Great fun. We use it to break up trips, entertain the kidlets, go to places we wouldn't otherwise go, and to tour around cities and places. When I visited Sydney I used it as a 'tour guide' and found some amazing places. And out in the country we've taken neat little detours to remarkable little nooks and crannies we would never have otherwise known existed (which are often just a stones throw from busy highways, overlooked by almost everybody).
Great to combine with the 4wding, camping, and cycling aspects of our lives....
If you've got a GPS or even an iPhone (yes, there's an application available), certainly worth giving it a shot. Adds a whole new overlay to the existing world :)
