The gentleman's club in Bundaberg used to have their own barrels of Bundy carefully selected by a group of dedicated rum drinking members and cellared for years before being broken down to OP strength with dry sherry, not water. This was served neat with a jug of iced water on the side. Smooth as silk. The effects of several drinks of the Club Reserve were not noticed by newcomers until they went to rise from their chair and discovered a condition akin to paraplegia. One chap told me of his first encounter as thinking he had been embalmed.
