Hi Wortho, Im not questioning you, (well I am in a way:D) but you hear the stories of Arb fitters not being mechanics & therefor not picking up on other possible probs when fitting the lockers, ie carrier bearings that need replacing being overlooked.
On the other hand if the lockers are only purchased & not fitted by Arb does the 24 month warranty still apply? Whats your experience with these lockers, & your experience with faults, warranty claims etc.

Can't speak for every store but we have a qualified mechanic in our workshop who does the lockers and fitters for well fitting things, also are these places ARB stores or ARB stockist's.
Problems with the lockers are few and far between, mostly to do with how they are fitted(have seen some very interesting copper tube routing with home installs) but if you sell enough of somthing you are bound to have some that experiance a problem, does not matter what the product is things can go wrong (even Landrovers can break down), what matters is how the problem is dealt with and i like to think we do a pretty good job.
Taking work hat off now, first time i used my locker i snapped my short side rear axle 5sec after engaging it, i was pretty dissapointed at that.
After i put some 4.11's in i'll be saving for some Hytuff axles i think, got twins due in a couple of weeks though so that might take some time at least 24 spline axles are cheap in the meantime.

Can you move and work at Capalaba ARB, the advice was a bit hit and miss there when I called.

The only issue I have with Detroit lockers is their onroad manners , I've driven mates Hilux several times , and there is all sorts of clunking going on around corners.

you must have read Ashcrofts post on these? it put me off somewhat. My wife drives the car 80-90% of the time & judging by his post, perhaps I SHOULD PUT ONE OF THESE IN:twisted:.
Seriously though, if it was to fail & remaind locked, in the wet, going around a corener:o.

i love the arb, works well, when it works, i currently have an open wheeler becasue when the locker is engaged the air just ****es out the breather and doesnt engage the locker, i was fitted to the centre by an arb store about 8 months ago and i have used it twice, so i am a bit dissapointed in that, but hey, nothing is perfect, and the service i get from the local arb in maroochydore is good so it isnt soo bad.

If a Detroit failed in a way it remained locked, she wouldn;t know a thing until she turned a tight corner in a carpark/driveway, a solid locked diff's adverse effects are hardly noticeable on the open road

I'm very seriously considering an order through Keith as I think I'll just stick a 30 spline detroit in a sals in my Rangie
