I need to replace my family car/4x4

Buggered if I know what to do here With this so called investment allowance I should go new but have a budget of only 52K on the road + 6k for the add ons.
Cant get much new for that that's decent. Other than Japer Duel cabs and soft roaders in the 4X4 world.

I need a tow capacity of 2700kg and something tough enough to go through mud, water and take the odd animal impact. As My old Rovers do
Should I just hold off and get a low kay luxo 4X4?

I'd like to go the new D4 but out of our reach atm

For $52,000 you'll get a Defender new, on the road and some change. For $6,000 you'll get a lot of extras.

    So what's the problem

A low km D3 should fit in your budget. That would be a good buy if you can get a good one. Either SE or HSE. I wouldn't buy an S - no Terrain Response/ Air suspension.

It will get a nice low milage L322 a D3 two late build D2's or a new defender.I drive jap duel cabs all the time and can't warm to them,I hate the sloppy IFS at the front and ox cart leaf spring at the rear, the seats aren't good as is the driving position and you can't fit four adults in them without cutting your legs off. Need a lot of silicon to block the leaks, useless air con and I have to wind up the driver window to talk to my family are the main reasons. The other is it would look very big on a car trailer wile I tow it with my old Rangie to our nearest dealer (Over 350km) if it has a hissy.

Wile saying all of that we are still very open minded. My wife seems to like the 130 in the fender range of all things. That will be nice in a shoping centre!

See if you can get LR to agree (in writing) to come and collect it if it has a "fail to proceed error" ??? Worth a try???

Is the AC in the new models still as bad???

How much does the isuzu d-Max cost???

Air con and heater both work VERY well in the new Defender's.
Noise levels are about on par with a D1. Not like earlier Defenders, so unfortunately the excuse "sorry dear couldn't hear you" no longer works
My nearest dealer is over 1000km away and I haven't had to tow it with my old Defender anywhere.
As for a 130 in a shopping centre
You obviously haven't driven one yet.

Good idea I'd imagine if I pay the dealer I purchased it from to service it that may work out bit like a road side assistance warranty.
To be honest I haven't priced one yet Looking at the dash the air may be improved.

Thanks for that, this is what I need to hear. I'm off to Sydney on the 19th so will have a look at a 130 and a 110 dual cab. I cant really have a wagon anyway as need to cart gas and chemical here. Would have to drag a box trailer all the time. The 130 with a tray would be ideal in practical ways but getting a bit long. My kids are now over 5ft and we often do 6 hour trips so good air con and leg room is important in this part. Plus I am getting soft. Although still don't mind pushing a manual box.

Just about every new vehicle comes with road side assistance for the warranty period, Land Rovers certainly do - 3 years.

Good to hear someone being sensible about carry gas bottles and chemicals. The A/C in the dual cab would be more efficient than in the wagon purely on space to cool. Don't be put off by the back seats in the dual cab, they are the same as in the wagon but have been held more upright by a small bracket on either side. Moving this will let them recline a little more.

I'm senior deputy fire captain here so very against chemical and gas in an enclosed area I can assure you.

I believe the spacers are there for crash or load intrusion with the HC body. If a tray is fitted we may be able to remove them. Seems strange other duel cabs in AUS don't have this. Structural reasons maybe?
