i buy panasonic for my work, we have 4 cordless drills and 3 or 4 rattle guns, 16V from memory, not cheap
they cop a hiding from the boys, have tried a couple of other brands but they have not stood up to the test
Hello all, as above I'm looking to buy a good cordless drill.
I've been thinking about either a Makita LXT BHP452, or maybe a Milwakee 18V.
It needs to be torquey as I'm also going to use it to wind down the legs on the Slide-on camper as well as just as a drill/driver.
Any advice?
Cheers,
Fraser

been satisfied with panasonic torque & battery charge life for a few years now... I'd need a good reason to change
Milwakee is just rebadged Makita.
Panasonic or Hitachi if you want it to last from my experience.

Hi Guys,
Had good runs out of Panasonic, as have Hilti although the Hilti was nearly 50% dearer.
Steer clear of DeWalt, plastic junk IMHO.
I have a DeWalt and am very happy with it. Excellent torque and battery life, a bit heavy but very well balanced and excellent smooth variable speed control.
Can't understand the previous comment re "plastic junk"

I like Makita.
Good back up, quick charge time and torquey.
They also have endless addons like rattle guns, circ saws etc.
Same battery packs work most.
I bought a pack which came with circ saw, blower, recip saw, light duty drill and heavy duty and hammer drill, torch and I added the jig saw, rattle and 2 more batteries.
Had no probs so far.
It depends on how much you want to spend, try to get the extended warranty on it as well.
I was going to buy the new Bosch 18V that retails for about $750, I also looked at the Pro Tool (Festool) 18V with the removable chuck which I found extremely handy for scewing into tight areas. It has 4 speed settings as opposed to 2 - 3 usually. 2 lithium ion battery packs and a 5 year warranty for $699.
One year of solid drilling and tapping and has proved itself. Have also dropped it a number of times and has never stopped its performance. With the removable chuck it fits comfortably into my tool bag.
Hope this helps.
We are using 18V lithium cordless gear in our factory & job sites every day.
We are running a number of the well known trade quality brands - DeWalt, Panasonic, Bosch, Hitachi, Makita, {Ryobi 18+ with lithium batts - range not trade quality but is standing up very well - surprising actually). Of all these, the brand the boys all go for 1st time is the 18V Lithium Hitachi gear - it cops an absolute flogging & keeps coming back for more.
Hope this helps

We use them all day, every day & its Hitachi Lithium ion for us.We generally buy them from Sydney tools, but havent had to buy one for a few yrs now.
We also use the Bosch 36v rotary hammers,& they cop a flogging. The one problem we have had with these is the battery's charge life seems to reduce as they age even though they are Lithium ion.
