In all seriousness, the carry-ons are not as bad when you look back. Just moments in a lifetime. I have two daughters and a son, of whom I am very proud. It's interesting to sit back and look into their personalities, I see a bit of me, a bit of their mum (Their saving grace;)) and a bit of themselves. I was very concerned when the oldest moved out, she was always independant and strong, but they knew they would be made welcome back home if neccessary. Think back to what you were like at that age.:o

My eldest, her husband and two kids are almost your next door neighbours, relatively speaking. A bit further south, Rockingham.

Actually, wife and I were the ones who left home and relocated interstate:eek: Left the three of them in the family home and they did a pretty good job looking after it and each other for a couple of years...now one is in Asia, one on Cape York and the other settled 120km from where we now live... but we do truly miss them...especially the lively -usually hilarious dinner table conversations when they are all home together... a rare event these days.

Frankly, it's difficult...but you console yourself that the world is somehow a better place with them as confident adults making a contribution...well that's what I tell myself!:p

How will I cope? Probably like this :arms::arms::thumbsup::thumbsup::banana::banana:.

Eldest has left a few times and is now back again and always welcome. Moving interstate again in the future will probably fix it.

I was having the same conversation with my neighbour yesterday, as his son is 36 and still there. :eek:

One of mine (son) has morphed into a 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy who is the personality image of his dad. ( unfortunately, disobedient, rebel, thrill seeker, loud, exhuberent)

So I spend Thursdays and Fridays entertaining them, including Friday morning in the pool singing "The Wheels on the Bus" while swinging baby to teach him to swim.
This ends in three weeks. What a hassle but very rewarding, as yesterday for the first time after what seems years of trying we got them both in the rock pool, and both happy to walk around and not screaming when they got a mouthful of sea water.
Daughter lives about an hour away, so SWMBO talks to her regularly via phone and we see her about every 2 weeks.
We have a wide range of interests and great friends in our downshift home. We are having 20 people over on Sunday , so do not really have empty nest.
Kids have to live their own lives, and IMHO should not be given everything except the best possible education , even if you cannot afford it.

Both my girls have been well educated and attended Uni...the eldest has deferred, the youngest graduates this year....so Moving to Melbourne is the best choice for her career:)


You can only do so much for them and let them go ahead (hopefully):D

very true Mrs HH,my daughter Alex will be off to Uni later this year.

My daughter left three years ago and joined the Navy. Has been in Canberra at ADFA so we see her when she comes up to visit her friends for parties etc.

Love to have her home but also love it when she says bye bye

Young bloke just finsihed his HSC and may be off to uni soon so I think we have him for a couple more years yet. Would not be unhappy if he moved out but he like his sister are great kids and apart from having rooms like pigpens have had not problems with either.
