Thread: Bought a ticket to the policemans ball

INFRINGEMENT NOTICE NUMBER ########## ISSUED TO (NAME/LICENCE NUMBER) ON THE (DATE) FOR THE OFFENCE OF (OFFENCE).

To whom it may concern,

I refer to the abovementioned infringement notice, and would like to respectfully make representations in relation to same.

About (time) on the (date), I was driving motor vehicle registration number (rego #) in a (N/S/E/W) direction on the (name of road) in (name of suburb/town). At the time, I was aware that the posted speed limit was 70kph. There were signs to indicate this fact. At the time, my speed was (insert speed).

When at a point on (name of road) I observed a fully marked police highway patrol vehicle performing radar duties. It was at that point I was signaled to pull over and stop by the police officer. He informed me that he had detected my vehicle travelling at (speed reading) in a 60 kph zone. At no time did I observe any signs indicating the reduced speed limit. In fact, I believed I was still in the 70 kph zone. This fact is supported by the speed at which I was detected – 72 kph.

I am fully aware of the trauma that speeding has on our roads. I have an excellent driving history. It can be seen that my awareness of speed related issues is demonstrated by the fact I have not come under police notice for any traffic offences. As a motor vehicle driver with (insert years of experience) and a plant operator who holds tickets/licences to drive (insert plant type), I consider my manner of driving to be of a very high standard.

In my defence, I can only state that on this occasion, poor road signage caused me to be unaware of the speed limit on the road on which I was travelling. I have attached photographs to demonstrate same.

As such, given my excellent driving record, and perhaps also due to poor signage being a mitigating factor, I respectfully request that this matter be dealt with by way of a caution on this occasion.

No you can't. It is more than 10 kays over. This only works if it is 10k or less.

At least this one in WA is about $100 cheaper and one demerit point less than Vic.

Bear in mind the plight of the P-plater; any speeding offense and you have your license suspended for 3 months.

I donated $110 to the Tasmanian economy in August...same issue...didn't know I had been tagged as a donor until I was back in Bris three weeks later. Was travelling to Richmond and turned off the Tamar "Hwy?" ...saw the 80kmh sign and slowed to below 80km well ahead of it. continued on my merry way. ticket said travelling at 78kmh in a 60 kmh zone .
I had a look at google street and traced the journey...sure enough the 60 zone sign was behind the bushes...of course it was...


And another thing: contempt for speed zones in road construction areas is generated by the lazy/inane/insane? who leave the 40kmh signs there (normally 80-100km) even when work has ceased for the day and personal worker safety is not an issue... so people gaily travel through at 80-100kmh and ignore the signs...who can blalme them AND who gives THEM the statutory right to play with speed limits anyway...seems any Joe Blow can buy a speed sign and use it whenever/wherever

WA has more change in speed limit on its roads and freeways than any other State l have ever driven in and they limits they choose to impose on some roads absolutely make no sense whatsoever.

Driving down Alexander drive into the the city you go through a myriad of 70, 60 zones yet it is all dual roads separated by a medium strip.

Changes for 90 to 80 to 90 to 100 on on the Tonkin and Roe Freeways make no sense and the argument you change to 80 before the intersection lights make no sense when you have yellow flashing lights warning of light changes anyway.

Driving up from Perth to Kal yesterday - Mr Plod had a major roadblock set up at Carrabin roadhouse, mainly targeting trucks heading west. Judging by the number of white government cars in there, they must have had representatives from the Department of every bloody thing in attendance. checking the truckies for dodgy loads, shonky log books, bald tyres, boat people, invalid permits and communists under the bed.

They also had some new style (I assume) radar or other speed sensor out on the highway. Either it wasn't turned on (even though there appeared to be a copper checking it out) or it was a new type, as it didn't set my radar detector off.

Anyway - apart from that, an uneventful trip.
