Thread: 12v compressors

I have a Big Red, made by Thomas in the USA, not cheap, but not way over priced, had an ARB compressor before this one, it died after 2yrs and was actually dearer than my current compressor at $385, the Big Red was $375 3yrs later

The OX by TJM is supposed to be very good, at under $200 very good value.

If you have a petrol engine & a reasonably accessable spark plug, the "chuffer" type air pump is fine for occassional use - I mean it will pump up 4 tyres no worries, just a bit of a pain taking out a hot spark plug.
I used one for many, many years on my series 2 mainly because there was no options- apart from a hand pump.
I recently tested one against my blue tongue & its a bit faster on idle.
They are sub $50.00.

i have one and was tempted to buy it just on price alone

That Supercheap compressor is about 1/2 that price from Big W.

I bought mine about 5 years ago &, apart from the on/off switch dying (just bypassed it), it's still going strong.

I've got the arb portable one and I'm very happy with it, they came second or third in a comparison one of the mags did last year.

I have the Outback Devil from SCA.

Seems to work fine for me. We blow up wake tubes, balls etc & even the occasional tyre on the Disco & boat trailer.

The only complaint I would have, is that the pressure gauge is no more than a rough guide. I always carry another gauge with me anyway that I know is fairly accurate, so it is not a major drama. I have found the gauge on the compressor to be anything up to 5psi out.

From memory, I paid around the $120 mark on sale...
