technically plausable.... but theres some big iffs and issues of neglect involved.
lets just say that the throttle stuck open and its not cruise control. so it doesnt matter what you do with the electrics the engine will want to rev the same (substitute throttle position sensor AND dont get ahead by saying it would shut off when you killed the engine)
Lets also say that it has some dodgey after market electrics fitted and there is a bridge across the ignition to the alternator output through a relay so that if the alternator is making full output and the ignition is off the relay is held but with the electricity flow in reverse (fozzy has a relay deliberately installed like this to prevent a battery failure from stopping the fuel pumps)
so now we have an engine that just wont shut down because you cant get the revs down low enough
Some autos have a feature that will not allow neutral to be selected if there is more than a certain number of RPMS on the tach, this is partially to prevent engine over rev by selecting nuetral under load and part of the "no slamming from reverse to forwards or vice versa" protection. This doesnt stop you from selecting first.
I want to see the result of the investigation because
a, theres a car company thats going to have a recall mandated on it OR
b, someones going to get his but kicked for illegal and dangerous mods.
