"S" is the speed rating. It means the tyre is able to carry its max load sustained at 180km/h.
What would I look for.
For a road tyre
The plainest tread pattern
High highest load rating.
If available in that size, LT construction is also the go. An LT will usually have the above.
unless the trailer has brakes you are limited to 750 kg combined weight trailer and load. Any tyre will handle that load.
If you have over run brakes then you can go to 2000kg but unless you have something special for an axle you probably will not be able to carry more than 1500kg.
LT tyres are the go, I even got LTs for my 80"
Normal 45mm tandem axles and slimline bearings will run up to 2175kg without load sharing suspension and 2900kg with load sharing suspension.Quote:

Actually, the limiting factor for the 45mm axle is the usually the bearings rather than the axle. The axle is good for about 1600kg. Slimline bearings run out to 1450kg and 1.5t bearings are well....1500kg.
Thanks to all who dropped their pearls of wisdom on this thread. I got a nice 2nd hand set of Falken 195 R14 light truck tyres with tons of tread fitted to the trailer this morning for the princely sum of $40 each! Seriously, you've got to love this forum.
Good score, I doubt you'll see the end of those tyres. When you think about it, the average "domestic" box trailer does about half of it's running empty and given that the unladen trailer probably weighs stuff all .......................Quote:

There is a second hand tyre place behind Bunnings at Rocklea. They will fit you out some 14" LT's for $50 each.
