I am jealous for mud tyres on a Landy with a truck motor.

You have a hole in one. Well done.

Mud tyres are good in mud, truck motors good in trucks and tight jeans are good on hot girls.
    Simple really.

My 300 tdi is doing great job and my old V8's also did great job but filling up every 350-400km's was wasteful and in this day and age not really acceptable, not to mention expensive.

Oh and I do like to put the bait out to the bearded mob with Isuzu's, they always bite.

    Sure they are good motors.
I agree, I just don't like them, bit like I don't like pineapple on Pizza.
    It just does not belong.
Just my opinion I am voicing like most of us.

Keep smiling JC, I like stirring you down there.
I love Tassie, be back there soon.

I've had a 4.9 Rover/P76 V8 with a ZF auto. What a motor!! Has a squillion NM or torque, but drank about the same. If cost and fuel supply were no issue then its the all mighty V8 for me, albeit with a R380 on the back.

But, as fuel is an issue I'd stick with my 200Tdi. So much go from such a little motor, and lets face it they don't overheat on a weekly basis like the V8's... I also like that when I got out of it tonight, the tank was half empty ad I'd done 800 kays

I have only driven 1 300Tdi, and I thought it was crap, but that may have little to do with the design, but more the maintenance.

What are the differences between the 200 and 300, and why was this changed? For anyone to have an educated opinion, perhaps we need educating...

But for now I wouldn't know what is the best. What would it be used for??

If it was which engine had the best impact on LR? then it would be the V8 for sure

If it was whats the best engine for me? then it would be one of the diesels.

    Cheers,

they changed a lot but changed nothing, if that makes sense. the result is that Personally the 200 is more reliable than the 300. its all the little things that stack up against the 300. Pgasket if that goes then 1/2 the time you have to cut the bolts etc. Head distorting, vacuum pump.

the 200 has a nicer manifold and i think the only difference in HP is down to the fact that the 300 runs a bit higher boost. in aus we got the 200 late and it was quickly replaced by the 300 so in comparison there would be less 200s on the road than any other LR motor.

200, nicer to work on, just simpler but then we could say the same about the 2.25 etc etc

Why is it wrong putting truck motors in cars?

It worked for Carol Shelby, Land Rover, Dodge etc.....

I've dragged off both a 200tdi and 300tdi in the traffic light GP circuit, I admit it they were the slowest drag races in history but on both occasions the other 110's were lost in my pluming diesel soot, when I fit a turbo we'll have to try again.

As Clean says, lots of little differences.

The 300Tdi got a wider cam belt - which wore out faster due to misalignment issues - and needed 3 fixes to correct.

The 300 got updated injectors which (unlike the 200) are non serviceable (cannot just replace nozzles).

Different manifold(s) and turbos. Different bellhousing bolt pattern.

The 200 is much closer to the older generation of LR diesels and many parts are interchangeable.
