I changed my 4BD1 nozzles at 300k km (first time). Didn't notice a difference. 500k+ km would be no problem.

The IDI injectors in the 2.25D see a bit more heat and can suffer stress fractures, so need changing every 200k km or so...

    Thanks Pat.
I don't know what all the fuss is with this gasket and fancy sealants.

I had a water leak a while back and it turned out to be this gasket. I pulled it all apart, cleaned it and put it back together with out a gasket using plumbers roof and gutter silicone.

18 months on still perfect and using no coolant.

    I'm with JC.

I've had a few 3.5 litre and 1 4.6 litre V8, but change to diesel was inevitable.

    I've had 2 300Tdi, and still have 1 in a disco.

I have a 4BD1T and it beats all the others - lay down misere.

I have spent a small fortune (for me, and I expect for others here) on turbo and inter cooler upgrades to try and get acceptable (for me) towing performance from the 300Tdi's.

I have spent a fraction of that on a turbo and inter cooler upgrade for the 4BD1T. Since the turbo cost me less than $1k (when exchange rate of A$ was much less than now) including shipping, I would expect for similar $$$ compared to chip and inter cooler upgrade for a TD5, my 4BD1T would give better performance.

IMHO, on the road, the 4BD1T is not much noisier than a 300Tdi - not enough to concern me.

What some people don't relize and I made this mistake is when you change your water pump you have to change the p gasket as well. I found out the hard way after putting everything back together lol but once you have done it once it pretty easy to do.

    Cheers Simon

I'm not sure what you are getting at, or where you are coming from.

For some reason when you quoted me, you mangled what I said to something different.

The engine is a 4BD1T from a 1989 Isuzu NPR truck.

It is stock except for exhaust manifold and turbo, valve springs, head bolts, engine balance, inter cooler, calibration of fuel injection pump and different oil filters.

Edit: I don't know how many km the engine had done before I bought it. As said, the turbo and inter cooler for the 4BD1T cost much less than what I spent on turbo and inter cooler for the 300Tdi and I guess similar to what a chip and inter cooler upgrade would cost for a TD5.
