Geez Rob...........sounds like you need a kleenex mate............:p
We are booking in to see it in 3D Goldclass.
It may not be everyones cup of tea, but I love this type of surrealist stuff!
The amount of talent and ability that goes into making something like this is nothing short of sheer brilliance and all those who had a hand in it should stand up, take a bow and bathe in their collective brilliance.
And if it runs for 3 hours, I guess I get my $$$ worth in those Goldclass lounges!!
Can't wait!!
Cheers
Andrew.
hahaha damn straight. i saw it the other night and im still angry from it!
i'll admit i love the talent that goes in to making such a movie as well, but why waste all that talent on such a boring movie?
you got a studio that can do some awesome CGI and 3D work, and you go and blow it on a 3-hour movie with as much depth as a chick flick (the movies '27 Dresses' and 'A Walk to Remember' came to mind)
It was an interesting experience, but hardly a great movie.
The CGI effects were impressive, but a movie needs to be more than an impressive collection of special effects.
It was interesting watching it in a conventional theatre. Even without the glasses to get the 3D, it was easy to pick the shots that had been deliberately contrived to look impressive in 3D. The shots of arrows protruding from victims so that the audience in a 3D cinema felt in danger of having their eye poked out with the back of the arrow was exactly the same effect in the last 3D movie I saw about 20 or 30 years ago. It was called something like "Flesh for Frankenstein" and the comparable shots in that movie were of spears and such things going through people and dangling bits of the victim's insides right in front of the audience's eyes.
"Avatar" was enjoyable enough, but before I would call it a great movie, I would want a less predictable plot, a less heavy handed moral, fewer stereotypes and visual cliches , better acting and a few of the other things that are part of the movie maker's tools of trade.
A movie is more than special effects.
Enjoyed the movie and its effects, Must say the plot was a bit thick on the Global warming, tree hugging, theme. Each to their own, but please dont force feed me.
NM,
I would still go and see it. More people liked it than not. As I said earlier, it wasn't my cup of tea but I feel that I am in the minority.
My 17 yo son had no intention of seeing it because of what he new of it, it didn't interest him. He did eventually go and enjoyed it so much that he went and saw it again.
So my advice is go and see it so you don't die wondering, and as it is a 3D movie, watching it later on blue ray won't be the same.
Dave.
I enjoyed the movie but found the plot a bit lacking :o I reckon they could have made it into a really good movie. But if they did it mightn't have done the volumes to justify the production process.
This movie come highly regarded by the Armadillo and Grace - but like NM, I'm starting to wonder......Kind of reckon Capt. Rightfoot is onto it - great effects?
We loved the movie. It really is a movie of a new generation - so accept for what it is. The story holds together, the effects are awesome and keeps you entertained for 2.5 hours. My advice is see it!!
