This annoys me... IMHO a lot of these brands are relying on the fact that people bought a hoover widget (or whatever) 28 years ago and it's been running strong since. So you go out and find out that Hoover widgets only last 4.5 years now. But you've bought another one so they are happy

I think most devices are built to last the duration of the factory warranty, plus the extended warranty and if it fails after that it's "not economical to repair" so we are supposed to throw it away and start again

We have bought a Miele dishwasher which is 6 years old now and hasn't required any intervention. This is far longer than most people seem to get. We've since bought a Miele washing machine as well. I reckon if it last twice as long as the rest and doesn't need fixing every two years I'm happy to pay a bit more.

While we're on the what has lasted well... I have lots of remote control gear. I have a JR x347 - one of the first computer radios released that I bought for $1000+ in 92, and it's still serving me well. I was using it today, and it would have done literally thousands of hours of service now

GE (rebadged Fisher and Paykel) dryer, bought in 1970, still going strong. Getting a bit rusty around the feet after twenty years outside, and the latch that held the door closed had to be replaced with a aftermarket hasp and staple about twenty years ago.

Rover lawnmower that dad got for a 21st birthday present, he's now 57 i think and it still starts first pull. although it fails in other areas such as catching grass...

and a Metabo angle grinder and hammer drill that's been around for as long as i can remember (22 odd years) and still working as well as brand new items

What do you do with your remote control gear? Fly? Drive? Sail?

I bought a supercheap 2hp compressor 4 years ago, and not only does it work perfectly (it has painted 2 cars), it holds its preasure perfectly, even with the hose attached. By perfectly, i mean no drop in the gauge in over 6 months!

No that is somthing that lasted longer than i expected.

It must have a faulty gauge.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    i'll vote for these compressors!
ours has painted one car and done hundreds of hours of other work. Although the auto-shut off valve is stuffed so you gotta flick it off manually
