doesn't really unless you have a child soon and are happy to give the baby bonus back to the gov...:D

Hi Guys,
While agreeing with what has been said here, I grabbed at the bonus with both arms.
The bonus funded our private health insurance for some time. I called it "Pando's heath care equalization scheme" just so I didn't feel like a complete scum bag taking money that I didn't really earn.
At least I didn't blow it on a new tele..........
Nothing to do with whether I got it in my day or not. How do you know if I even have kids ?
It's simply bad policy - I can quote you plenty of examples, many of which are a little too close to home.
Not saying that all people who receive it should not be entitled to some form of assistance - just that there are waaaay too many out there who are simply having kids to get the money - particularly back when it was paid in a lump sum. Don't agree with people having children for the wrong reasons - and this type of "bonus" simply provides the wrong reason.
Interesting that the baby bonus is about the same as a round of IVF.
thanks for your kind words guys,
my wife is due in early march, im in the navy, on sea going allowance etc, puts me on around $85k per year, so i just wasnt sure if my situation would make it harder, but now thats been clarified thanks.
also, how much would my wife be getting from centrelink (family payments) after the baby bonus has been paid out? (same circumstances, one baby, spouse (me) working, roughly the same wage)
sorry about all of these questions
just crunching the numbers at the moment while trying to get our foot in the door in the sydney residential market lol
mate the baby bonus is over and above the family payment ....we have two under 10 and we receive just about 470 pf ....take a look here Changes to Family Assistance payments might help ...
cheers
Mate you need to ring centrelink. They will tell you exactly. If you don't find out what you need... ring again or go into a branch.
As to the house thing.. I'll try to bite my tongue. Let me say though that big gains on assets are when you buy in when the price is low. Have a look at the graph below and you'll see we are somewhere that we've never been before. Do you need a roof over your head or a house? ;)

Congrats on the baby news.
We have a 6 month old but haven't claimed the bonus yet. Need to do it soon I think 12 months is the limit on the claim.
We tried a few times but between their website claim form and the phone help we received it just made me want to go into their office and bash their heads together
In other words we'll have to go into the Centrelink office and get them to do it for us.
We just had our baby and will be getting the baby bonus.
Realy we dont need it but it helps.
Maby they should give vouchers to buy baby stuff rather than giving straight out cash.
our bonus is going towards the future with education for our princess
Cheers
