I've only known of 1 case where a personal friend's sister was paid the "baby Bonus" in a lump sum after having given birth to her first child , she actually did the right thing and deposited the Money into a bank Account with a seperate Efpos Card to purchase baby goods , Food , nappies and the likes.

    What a crock !

Saying "an IVF treatment costs $x " is like sayiong "a new car costs $x".

It varies greatkly depending on the treatment required.

For example, while intracytoplasmic sperm injection
...used when a man’s sperm is unable to fertilise his partner’s egg naturally. The treatment costs from $500 to $800,
More complex problems incur much much higher costs.

I'd lay money there aren't too many people using IVF so they can collect a baby bonus !

Note - this is not a defence of those who have kids to collect a baby bonus, but rather is a defence of those who use IVF to have kids.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

We didn't use IVF but due to various things we had to undergo I don't think we will be making much out of our baby bonus.
However considering what we did get out of it all I'd happily pay $5k for the privilege of having our baby son.

I'm on number four kid from IVF and even with the changes in the baby bonus, and the different IVF costs we've incurred, including frozen embryo storage, it's worked out about the same.
