Hmmm. I'd like to meet up with a few backpackers myself....![]()
I doubt it Ron.
In most country towns Backpackers are employed,AT A LAST RESORT!!!
They are here to party, work ethics are minimal. The bar maids do provide extra revenue for the pub.Every man and his dog get down there when they change them over to try and get "first place" and the brag
A while ago 2 Irish backpackers in town, not used to our hot weather and strong beer, hijacked the start ute for the trots between races for a few hot laps of their own. They just didnt understand why the farmer that sponsored them sacked them on the spot.
It was quite a spectacle

Sounds good! I was offered such work once before after I corrected a website. I didn't hear any more from them.

The point I was trying to make is that caravan parks with high percentages of permanent residents have become welfare ghettos. The residents are there in most cases because they can't afford better. However many like the lifestyle. Minimal housework involved in keeping a caravan and annex tidy although plenty don't bother. No yard to keep up, no bathroom or toilet to clean, etc.
As to "employment" and "unemployment", all Centrelink clients are encouraged to look for work as they are always better off financially if they have some work. Even Disability Pensioners are encouraged to work. The trick is getting them to declare their earnings truthfully. Very few "disabled" people have no capacity whatsoever to work. The pension is granted if they are considered by medical opinion to not have a capacity to work more than twenty hours per week for the next two years. 20% disability on the laid down scale is the minimum disability level to be considered for grant of pension.

Just before reading your post. there was a bit of a doco on TV, about some station that gets backpackers in to work because they cant get aussies.
its a crock and this is why
1 if there ever is a job in the"out back" they only want to pay peanuts.
2 Google, seek and the papers dont have jobs like these advertised.
3 there was a job last month advertised for a care taker handy person for a remote school and drug center. live in, accommodation relocation paid 6 weeks holiday with air fairs paid. the add was on seek for 3 days and they received 150 applications.
so to say you cant get workers is a crock, or eather you are paying peanuts or there is something else, in short it just dont ring true.
The figures are a bit misleading. The reason these towns have low unemployment is because no one stays there. They all move to Perth / Bunbury etc and increse their unemployment rate. Most farmers kids do just that.
