The TDV6 is not offered as an option in Defenders. Only the 2.4 litre Ford Puma 4 cyl, diesel.
There will be a completely new Defender about 2012. To my knowledge the engine options have not been finalised, but there have been some reports/speculation in the press that the TDV6 may be an option, along with the engine currently used in the Freelander (which has more torque and power than the current Ford Puma).
As the new defender will be based on the Discovery platform, it should be easy for Land Rover to add the TDV6 to the engine options.
I'm guessing bobbyflin's current vehicle may have a 300Tdi and he doesn't like the sounds it is making - so casting around for vehicle options.
Maybe some one who knows Dwayne could call him and confirm the rumour
Even the Saudi sheiks have to get their customised vehicles from a 3rd party so i dont belive LR would build a one off vehicle for a customer, for future design purposes yes but not for a special order.
Why not ring Dwayne and ask him? He loves a chat.

But without wanting to start a war, the current Puma engine, derived from the Ford Transit is, IMHO, quite an excellent choice of engine for a vehicle such as the current Defender platform - as were the TDI and TD5 engines preceding it ;)
I've heard that it won't be called the Defender, but something else. Theres even claims that it will be scrapped all together, and that they will split Land Rover into two: Range Rover and Land Rover like in the old days. But those are all claims, will have to wait and see what happens I guess
Personally I think they should have released the TDV6 Defender in 2007 when the "new" defender was released.
I can't disagree with that! Not that I disagree with your other comments, but I haven't sought/heard much in the last few months.
IMHO, an engine as complex as the TDV6 is not needed, just a class leading, inline, 4 cylinder, common rail diesel of about 3 litre. But it needs to be somewhat better and more reliable than the Ford Puma (sorry Scallops).
What are the reliability issues with the puma - I am out of touch - the only major issue I recall is the fuel tank breather problem?
Are the transit or ford ranger variants any better?
Come to that - does a ford ranger 3.0TDci bolt straight in instead of a puma????
