    The rust, whats now missing of it and the fact that it apears some one recently has tried to freshen it away from its originality are my concerns

    I went into ALL4X4 today and had a word with a mate of mine Geoff Maeder who works there and has been putting the most time into this vehicle. I discussed with him the fact that the vehicle was being potentially purchased by a member of this forum. He was surprised to hear this and stated that he has been spending the past 2 weeks contacting and sending information to the Museum in Adelaide as he is trying to get the vehicle down there to be parked along side the other landy.

    From what i have read on this thread this is something that we all want to happen if possible?! Perhapse we should wait for the final word from the museum and with any luck it will end up with its Brother

    Thoughts on this?!

    I have spoken to Goef today in detail. Yes we all do potentially want to see it go to the museum. However we all also want to see it as at was Told Geof my intentions. Not to restore it as new but with care make it like it was. As you may be aware a lot of the gear was removed off it when they got the Jeeps. The front guards are now different along with other minor things as well.

    Some of the boys at all Four X 4 know me quite well now so there is an element of trust here.
    Send me a PM if any of you have any personal reasons to do so or a problem with my intentions as this really needs to cool off here on a public forum for a wile.

    i think wait till we/geoff finds out from the museum and then if its no good we will go from there if i had the money laying around i would jump at this and then i would get up of the ground and buy it

    I emailed the curator at the national motor museum today. He didn't say yes, he didn't say no. This is what he did say:

    Thank you for your email regarding a Leyland Brothers Land Rover. The National Motor Museum is always open to offers of donations of interesting and significant vehicles. All such offers are handled by an Acquisitions Committee. As such I therefore act as the Secretary of the Committee and receive all such offers. That said, I fear that the Land Rover in question may be one that was recently offered to the Museum and that the Acquisitions Committee has declined, I can't say for sure it is the same vehicle, but the circumstances sound familiar. I will happily take your offer to the Acquisitions Committee (or possibly back to the Acquisitions Committee should it be the same vehicle) if you would like. In order to do this I shall need an offer of donation, in writing (via email is fine), and some images of the vehicle as it currently sits.

    I'm not good at reading between the lines but I think they may take it if it was donated to them. I'll get further clarification. If this is the case, I'm prepared to throw $100 into the hat. Anyone else?

    I believe one of our own has already put wheels in motion to give this a good home.

    My suggestion of an AULRO group buy was made when I thought the vehicle was going to be scrapped. We now know this is not the case.

    To the people saying that the vehicle should be presented entirely as is: the vehicle is not in it's Leyland Brothers condition. It has been in various private hands for over 30 years, and many of the distinguishing features have been re-modified or removed altogether. We all agree that the vehicle should be presented as it was during its famous years. To bring it back to that standard will require extensive research, and a fair deal of work. I suspect this is why the museum would have turned it down. (assuming it is the same one eluded to in the email Mick posted above)

    It is on track for an ideal outcome here - lets not upset the applecart.

    Any ideas why the vehicle was declined from a recent offer?

    I think it was because they were asked to pay for it. I'll ask why tomorrow.

    Not entirely Aus - I was simply musing.

    Museums generally don't have a lot of money to throw at major refurbs, and often lack the man power and facilities also. I am unsure of the situation of the above museum.

    Anyway - we are talking loudly in public here, and I'm sure none of us want this vehicle falling into the wrong hands.


    I'm not helping either, so I am going to do my best to shhhhhh now.
