In all fairness I'll talk to Leigh and mention you may have wanted it.
Would be a big job to tidy it up for sure. I wonder if that 186 went in earlier on.
Try not to post any pics yet with out asking the boss it as has not been advertised.

If you cant or don't take it on I'll get it to safety.

No big rush as I cant do anything before next wednesday.

    Cheers Tony

Regarding the motor, does anyone know wether the Leyland brothers themselves put the Holden in?

The 107" Station Wagon used in Wheels Across a Wilderness was converted, so whats to say they didn't do the same to this one?

Lord knows, the 2.6 was roundly disliked by most!

Well, I have been to All4x4 today and have seen the car, and taken lots of pictures. For those interested, I will email you them if you PM me your email address and will answer questions as best I can about it.

I've got a few good (large) photos of the one at the museum in SA, it's a ripepr of an unrestored vehicle.

I would have to say that the holden 6 was likely done by the leyland brothers, so that part is likely to be original.

Have checked the numbers and we have a....

352 Model: Land Rover, Series IIA
    Body type: Station wagon
    Wheel base: 109in
    Engine: 6-cylinder
    Model years: 1966-1971
Destination: Completely knocked down (CKD), right-hand drive (RHD)
    01103 Serial number
G Design: Six significant design modifications
Suffix used from April 1969 till October 1971

Should have a sals rear end being a six with a few other tricks I hope
Further to what you have found out, it is in fact a 1970, and the serial number is close but not quite. Its 201103C but perhaps G, a little hard to say decisively from the photo I took off the spring hanger. (edit: with some photoshop intervention, it looks more to be a G)

In terms of its overall condidition, it is fairly good overall. It terms of restoration it wouldn't be a huge task. The body looked pretty straight, interior is fair to good with a few rips in vinyl but nothing really major except lining on doors.

The biggest concern is some rust throughout the chassis, but nothing looked to be excessively bad - but I couldn't really get underneath too much, they said it was pretty bad so I will believe them. Exhaust is a bit rusted and holey too, but that's hardly a big issue!

It does have a rear sals differential, head lamps in guard. Most of the interior is complete, appears to be missing 2 dash gauges however.

There are a few more little comments about its condition I could make but I like how this is being drawn out

Hope that has whet people's appetite a little more about it all...

It will be good to see it snapped up and a little TLC given to it, and hopefully displayed as it deserves.
