Double Island Point (Qld) access question

I have planned a trip next weekend to Freshwater campground near Double Island Point and have a couple of questions for those who have been there recently.

I was planning on doing day trips from the Freshwater campground to the western side of Double Island Point as it looks to be good swimming conditions for the kids. It will be high tide around 9 or 10am.

Will tides prevent driving up Teewah Beach to the Leisha track?

Is there a way from the Freshwater Campground to Wide Bay? Google earth maps shows a road between Freshwater Road and the Leisha track. I can't see any sign of a road from the sat photo.

    Advice appreciated.

    Gday Rar
Ive never been on the Leisha Track so cannot comment Ive only ever taken the freahwater Road. The drive up the beach will not prevent driving to leisha track but I think its inpassable at hightide cause of all the trees.Iam sure another member that is a local could give you more info.

Have look at this site/map http://www.derm.qld.gov.au/media/par..._north_map.pdf

Also was that your 110 driving along the Esplanade at Godwin Beach that I waved to 2 weeks ago?

Yes Aaron - thought it might have been you. A bit of a unscheduled stop off on the way back from a day drip to nth bribie. The other half had never been to Goodwin Beach. Great spot you have there. Just walk across the road and drop a crab pot in the water. I didn't want to drop in unannounced. Will catch up one day. I should give you a shout next time we head up there.

As long as we can get to the Leisha track to get across the point to the sheltered side. I don't intend drive up toward Rainbow along the beach.

    Have things changed?
Freshwater used to be day trippers only,, nice grass, hot showers, BBq's,
Camping was only ever allowed down the beach about 14 kays,,

anywho there is a marvelous track signposted from freshwater to near Rainbow,, west is easier than east, conditions will vary due to weather and usage.

Is the beach still impassable at teewah rocks?

    oops,,
and YES at (most) high tide the beach is undrivable around the (former)wreck site,,

high tide might be a push, make an early start and drive to the rainbow beach side of double island by 8am......great swimming for the kids, it will be busy, you can than hang over that side till the tide goes down

wide bay, do you mean rainbow beach or tin can bay, just follow the freshwater track west till you hit the main road going into rainbow beach, right to rainbow beach, left to tin can bay

there is no road between freshwater and leisha track

Wide Bay is what is shown on the EPA (DERM) map. But what I mean is the beach between Double Island Point and Rainbow. If the tide was too high I was hoping I could travel along Freshwater Road, till the road turned toward Rainbow, then turn off somewhere to head to the beach somewhere west of DIP.

    must be an average map

double island to rainbow beach along rainbow, when i was up there in september at dead low i only just made it around the trees, the rocks at rainbow were easy to drive through, plenty of sand

once your on the freshwater track and the road into rainbow beach there are no turn off taking you to the beach, you need to drive right into rainbow beach to access the beach

    G'day Rar,
i drove from Rainbow beach along the freshwater track late last year and was pretty good, though narrow in sections and being a weekend pretty heavy traffic. the worst part of it was right down near the beach. tight corners and deep sand. rest of it is not too bad sand and gravel. took us bout an hour from rainbow on this track at a steady pace. and some nice forests through there too.
    good fun though.
i havent driven up to double island pt but would like to hear how it goes for future trips.
I'll actually be camped on the Cooloola beach section this weekend be nice to see another Defender on the beach. if you see me i'll show you the track on Ozi maps

thanks Jake will keep an eye out. Mine is a silver 110. I didn't realise it would take so long to get to Rainbow. We were hoping to head to Rainbow for dinner one night. Might need to rethink that one.

I only want to access the beach to reach the west side of Double Island Point, where its calm for the kids to have a swim. That's if I cant go up Teewah Beach because of the high tide.
