Not very far in that photo. Kyaks like that are for paddling on the water, not for paddling on the lawn, as you do not get far on lawn.
I have paddled rapids to grade 4 when I was much younger, plus paddled 8 foot waves in the surf [in a canoe Polo Kayak].
You look as if you are a beginner in the photo. If so start by paddling in still water until you get the feel of it, and then paddle somehing with small waves, or gravel races. Do not extend yourself by trying big rapids.
Wear a bouyancy vest if you go in water more than a meter deep, or ito moving water or waves. And if you go where the water is moving, also wear a helmet. Cheep pushbike helmets are often available from op-shops for only $5-- or so, and some heavier plastic ones will do for ayaking. I have a nice Gath helmet that was designed for surfing which I purchased for 50 dollars at Cash Converters. It has a nice pull down face visor, but am yet to see if it is any good in the surf as my old Kayak needs to have many repairs done to it.
Often the top Kayak paddlers will paddle easy stuff [say small waves] while carrying their bouyancy vest in the kayak, but wearing the helmet. If the best paddlers in Australia, and champion canoists, always wear a helmet so should you, if you go out of still shallow water.
If you paddle away from where their are lots of people watching, it used to be a unwritten common sense rule that you should paddle with others so one can help if something bad happens and one can go for a ambulance. Particularly if you paddle white water rivers.
Some paddlers have drowned so be aware.

I personally have only paddled up to grade 3 and very few in that league, mainly grade 2
I have always been taught to paddle with at least 3 but prefferably 4 people
I didn't take that much of a look at the photo at first, I notice the paddle strap,
If/ when in white water, get rid of it it is dangerous.
In saying all this you are sitting in a what looks like a flat water boat.

I'm going to Coongie Lakes S.A. with some members from the GCLROC in about 5 months time. So as the departure date gets closer I,m starting to gear up and get ready. Thanks for the advice on where/how to use the kayak, I'll only be splashing around on it. I've just got some bilstein shockies put on the defender and still waiting for M.R. to organise a maxi rear locker for me, even got a water tank on order to put under my trailer. Tyres hmmm, i do need new tyres for the trip (another thread ?)

are you running bfg at's, if so they will handle it no worries with reasonable tread on them
