...Before my time. I was there '85-'90. You might remember my grandma though. She was a cleaner there- Alice New and she lived over the road form the doughnut building.
Ted Hamilton was the male cleaner there when I was about.
My older brother and dad went there too. Dad '57-'61.
I remember Charlie though. He used to come around to my grandma's place...

Back to your original question: no, WD40 doesn't go off (as already stated). Cut the can in half and apply the stuff with a brush or syringe instead.

your can may be stuffed but you can use the liquid inside.
BUT...!!! WD40, RP7 and all those dont last long when used because they contain metho and it evaporates off the job. So if you want to protect metal use oil which will stay around, so in this respect it goes off.
So , open up the cans with a hacksaw etc and decant into a spray bottle?
