Interesting that RAV4, Corolla, Avalon, Camry, Higlander (Klugar) are all sold here with (I thought) the same engines. Does this mean Toyota sources different parts for different regions to do the same job?

I wondered that myself or whether it is the controller module behind this (I'm assuming these are all electronic throttles). I would have thought with commonality of parts and global rationalisation that either all markets would have the same part or at least all LHD markets would.
Probably not as big an issue in Europe as they can work out what to do if the throttle sticks and stop safely.

There seems to be some reality to not being able to stop a Toyota.
Going on the ABC (USA) news, millions of Toyotas are not stopping even when the owner wants to.
The problem was first put down to a fault peddle but now it seem that the problem is also a programming glitch and is going to mean the recall of heaps more vehicles.
According to the news item, the problems stem from Toyota concentrating on cutting production cost by reducing quality control.![]()
I see the recall has now been extended to up to 1.8 million vehicles in Europe (including UK): BBC News - Toyota recalls 'up to 1.8m' cars

Somehow the though of a Toyota lethargically advancing down the road is more amusing than terrifying to me.
Maybe we could fit those throttles to some of the bowls club Toyotas. Now that would be fun to watch![]()
