    Rubbish on Stockton Beach

Went for a drive on Stockton Beach yesterday ( Unfortunatley not in my Freelander, its still being repaired) in a neighbours Jeep. We entered from the Lavis Lane entrance and went down to the Sygna and I was absolutley gobsmacked at the amount of rubbish strewn around the beach. It appears there is a large "couldn't care less about the environment" attitude amongst some four wheel drivers.

My neighbour said he was on the beach the previous day (Australia Day) and the beach was chock a block full of fourby's. I mean how hard, for God's sake, is it to take your rubbish with you. Both my neighbour and myself always leave an area spotless after a picnic/camping stop.

How is this rubbish going to be cleaned up? It is such a huge area and they don't have the beach sweepers like they do at Newcastle Beach.

It is a problem because we (responsible four wheel drivers) could have a clean up day, and the next weekend the rubbish is back again courtesy of the "Yobbo" element!!
The thing that worries me is the "greenies" will call for a banning of four wheel drives on Stockton Beach if this neglect of the environment continues. Any thoughts, anybody?

Yep a perpetual problem. Have to be careful sometimes letting the dogs out coz of broken glass etc.

    Although

    - There is an annual clean up that the 4WD Clubs organise

    - Its not entirely due to 4WDers. There is a fair amount of flotsam (jetsam?) that gets blown ashore.

    - Some of it goes way back. Some of the corroded wire, star pickets etc is WW2 stuff.

    Regards

Unfortunatly thats always the case following any holiday, the majority of people head out of the city(most from sydney ive found) in there status symbol 4wd's that only ever see the city and occasionally a dirt track, they head out on the beach for an adventure with no idea how to drive and absolutely no respect for the beach, worst part is us local guys usualy spend most of our time out there during periods like this recovering them, they come out to our nice sand play ground and turn it into a ripped up rubbish tip.... thats why we haev annual beach clean ups..... to bad we will have to wait till octob er before it happens again.

Max, i would say he is more refering to the broken camping gear left behind and bags of bottles etc lazy people left as they didnt want to make there interior dirty...

One thing that could help would be a few NPWS garbage bins similar to what fraser island has and some more signage warning against litter, since NPWS took over all they have done is increase fee's, add more rules, limit camping areas and get more rangers out handing out fines,... i wonder where all that money goes....

Yeah guys, I am referring to rubbish such as plastic drink containers, plastic bags with rubbish in them and just loose rubbish. I think it hit me harder because I am a newby to four wheel driving and never been on that beach before and my neighbour (an experienced four wheel owner) was showing me the ropes in beach driving. My neighbour has been on that beach many times and he expressed disgust also!!!!

I appreciate what you are saying, but I am a beginner with a Freelander so I guess I have to look at what the Yobbos leave on the beach!!! Its disgusting!!!
