Simon sorry to here about the loss of Simba.
I was moved by your eulogy, and share the pain having lost my best mate some years ago. My grief took me by surprise even though the loss was expected.
Another best mate helps but its not the same.

I just wanted to say thank you to everybody. I spent the night writing about Simba to try to help me deal with her loss, and I only ever captured just a small snippet of what Simba was like and her life with me. When I opened this thread yesterday I was just absolutely stunned at the sheer enormity of the heartfelt responses, and even toight I still am. From the bottom of my heart I thank you all for your kindness, support and encouraging words.

I was chatting to my mum yesterday who would look after Simba at times and she was telling me this story. Actually Mum and Dads house was like Simbas holiday house really. One of the daily rituals was the morning walk down the driveway with Dad where she could momentarily escape the house, water the lawns, stretch her legs and check the scenery once again. Dad really just wanted to get the paper and get back inside again. Simba being the helpful dog that she was decided that she would also help Dad get the paper and so quickly decided that in the mornings that she would go and get the paper and bring it back up to the house. How could that not be encouraged and praised, she was probably only one step from getting beers from the fridge! The part that I didn't know until yesterday was that one day Simba decided to take a walk down the street and much to my parents horror she had visited a heap of houses down the street and brought all of their papers back to Mum and Dads! They had absolutely no idea which papers were whos or from where and so they sheepishly walked down the road throwing random papers around hoping they'd blame the paper deliverer.

I don't think they encouraged Simba to get the paper after that.

Oh, here is the pic that Andrew e was talking about. We were playing on Unimog hill at Lithgow where we were trying to get up a step on the side of a steep enough hill.

    Cheers
    Slunnie
