Clean up along Big River (vic)?

Just an idea at this stage.
Last weekend I headed up for a 2 day getaway by myself....just me and the Audi (sorry, disco in for repairs) and a fishing rod.
Obviously, there were going to be access probs getting into the campsites I'd normally use (its an A4 Audi lol) so I first tried Frenchmans...huge camp of trailbikers. Second choice Vennels.... same problem. Next is Big Bend Creek.....really nice except for the bloody rubbish everywhere. Ended up at Calfort Campsite.
Well I got myself all set up and then went for a wander...... Why oh Why do people have to throw bloody great bags of rubbish, bottles and cans into the bush? And worse.....sorry girls, but you ARE the most guilty of this.... Why do you need to leave toilet paper everywhere. In most cases, people have campfires up there....is it sooo hard to carry that bit of paper back and put it in the fire????? (this of course is not to mention those 'girls other things' that get left out there).
Anyway... as I enjoyed the billion stars a little later, I started thinking that maybe we could (AULRO that is) arrange with Parks Vic to do a clean up of the campsites. I'm thinking this will take a bit of arranging and that maybe it might be better to leave until after Easter (when all our good work would be undone anyway). We could make a w/e of it, I'm sure Parks Vic would arrange to take the rubbish from a central point.

Interested to get everyone's thoughts on this. Happy to talk to 'Parks' if its a goer.

    Great idea Wardy

The snowstorm of poo tickets, two steps away from camp is also a pet hate of mine .... as are those bloody bread bag ties, which I spend all camp picking up only to expose more every time you kick a bit of dirt aside.

    Anyway......

Clean up Australia day is on Sunday 7th of March and already has the support of Parks Vic. .............. Might make things easier???

I get your point about Easter, but have also noticed that a clean campsite tends to stay cleaner than a dirty one which then gives others an excuse to be pigs.

7th of March is the Sunday of the Labour day weekend, which could be bad for some, but easier for others ........ I'll be watching this thread and will certainly jump in and help if I can.

    Well done
    Stevo

Reminds me of coming down past eaglevale, just near the bridge, headed to the crossing as opposed to the bridge, only to be greeted by a mid 40's women, waving as she walked up from the crossing, a polite wave and drive down to the river, only to be greeted by her No. 2's and a mass of poo tickets

Pick a date Wardy. I would love to come depending on work commitments.

Yes bloody annoying isn't it. Don't just pick on the girls though - I think the guys do their fair share of rubbish dumping too. (although probably not as much loo paper)

I think many people imagine some mysterious pixies that come along in the night and clean up their mess, OR they just don't give a shid.

How many trailers will we need?

Is this 2wd access - ie: would a standard 6x4 trailer (perhaps with a cage) be ok? (I haven't got one but may be able to borrow one)

the Big River Road is 2wd until 25 mile creek but here are a heap of sites all along the BR road which will be the same.

    Wardy,

Sounds like a good idea. Is this to be AULRO only? I am sure I could get a few takers from LROCV if your happy to expand the invitation.

As with any job like this, the more the merrier.....as long as LROCV can work along without a committee meeting to work out how to pick up the rubbish

Placed a call today to Parks Vic, they are pretty happy to assist with removal of the rubbish we collect. I'll get a call over the next few days.
