Your spot on. 1954 I have a book here that states exactly that.
Bit of a white horse hey? I think Tata may have built Mercs ever tough trucks in the mid 50's. Some appear to be still going from what I've seen![]()
Mercedes Benz and the giant Indian automaker TATA entered into a joint venture in 1945 to manufacture commercial vehicles under the brand name "TATA Mercedes Benz". The vehicles were made in Bombay, now Mumbai. There have been a number of joint ventures between the companies since that time....
I didn't realise they have been around for so long.

Bombay was re named to Mumbai........
How could it have been somewhere before it existed and then move to itself in reverse let alone it was still in the same place, just before it ever really was......????
Is this a revolving backflip 180 deg case of the chicken and the egg...?????
Maybe its not the dodgy Vindaloo that leaves the confusion on your face and the upside down feeling in your stomach
Cheers
Andrew.
Nope, all Benz trucks are built in either Germany, Brazil and for a small amount South Africa for their own local needs.
I work for Mercedes Benz Commercial here in WA.
Unfortunately, there is no way to take the focus off LR and TATA no matter how hard you try Tony!!
I get ribbed everyday with workmates saying "hey, the TATA made it today and didnt breakdown..." (not that it ever has), then I gaze out into the carpark at all the Hyundai's, Kia's, Toymotas and other various **** boxes, smile, they realise that a profound drubbing is about to blurt out and they quietly leave without any further embarrassment!!
Cheers
Andrew.
So is their full title, Tatawellbebackmygollygollygosh?![]()
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
