Oops, thought you said TRUCK not duck.
Isn't it DUKW or something ? not sure what it stands for.
Anyway those old 6X6 Studeys were a brilliant vehicle though I reckon 3 metres is too deep even for them

Used to do a fair bit of bushwalking back in the 70's. Found a 20 round SLR magazine full of the same plastic rounds once. Near Mt. Hickey which isnt far from Puka.

There is or was a factory diesel engine upgrade for the Ferret from Alvis. Jordan was a customer for this in the nineties and perhaps others as well.

There used to be a couple of privately owned and road registered ones getting around Mitcham and Nunawading, Victoria back in the 70's. They had the fire power removed but that was about all. Like Dave said they predate ADR's and of course the 70's predates Vicroads.

After the war dad had brought a bit of gear of the army.He had a Bedford troop carier truck, complete with canvas cover and bench seats,a Canadian Blitz and a Bren gun carrier. Was brought to set up a business in tree falling and rural fencing. Bren gun carrier was perfect for rural fencing.Had a pile driver mounted of the back.No need for strainers.Hitched wire to Bren gun carier and moved foward a bit. Dad had converted the Blitz to a crane truck, with a simple fixed hight tripod style crane. This could be easly removed and the mid mounted winch could then be used for striaght pulling, either rear ward or through a fiar lead and rollers forwards.Only draw back with the Blitz was it being a petrol motor. It would stall on steep slopes.Dad for what ever reason never did convert it to diesel. In the 70`s dad picked up another Blitz a ford Blitz? It had a side vavle V8 in it.Bedford truck was ideal for working artound the Dandenong ranges.Very low geared. In 1st you pulled out the manual accelerator and walked be side it.
