I had a mate in the 70's bought one & was told by Vicroads he would never be able to get it to comply with registration requirements. Well he did!!
Hacked the heck out of it though, no turret, had to put in windscreen & wipers etc etc.
He had deep pockets !! - it went like the clappers too...

    simple.......................................

the fuel consumption on the Disco is heaps better, not to mention the odd bit of R&R.

I remember when the Ferrets were sold off by the army, must have been in the 1970's. Bloke in Mt. Waverley, near where I lived at the time used to drive one to work, used to see it every day. Pretty expensive daily commute but no right of way issues.

Probably right, he might have had an anal beaurocrat. I recall a 6wd duck used to do joyrides around Rosebud pier at that time & it was registered & original.

already got the plans for a couple of diesel engine conversions that get the paper fuel economy down to that of a toyota landcruiser.

if you goto the lancers museum website

    Museum Vehicle Collection

out of their lot Ive driven and spanner spun on the following

    Bren Gun Carrier
    Centurion Tank
    Ferret Scout Car

I did a 2 year stint down at 1/15th as part of the CATR staff and spent every minute I could fnagle helping the old guys out. I dontated the original engine and gearbox from my CJ5 to the museum to help get an ex mill jeep up and running but I dont know what came of that.

It'd be nice to get back down there before the last of the old guys I helped out move on. Everyone there at some point had a at some point worn the green for RNSWL.

Being a Rosebudian born and bred i thank you for reminding me about that, i vaguely remember army folk down there with m16's (or something) shooting off blanks or something, i remember collecting all these black plastic shells, i'd be guessing late 70's. I'll ring the old lady tomorrow and question her about it all

seeing the CJ5 you mentioned Dave, reminded me of when I had a CJ7 Renagade back in the early 80's 4.2/6cyl ,3 speed manual, I can still hear the petrol 'disapearing' through the Carter carb
