Too easy - when you know where to look - thanks Dave

This satisfies my query but, as I said earlier, I'm not sure if it satisfies Martyns original query. I guess we'll hear from him when he comes back online.

Pretty much spot on the mark,

Whilst I accept that a level of 'banter' is to be accepted and indeed is acceptable. The reason I visit this site is to garner info on Land Rovers/4WD/Camping/travel, lately the banter (I would have another name) threads seem to be snowballing. In the past I've expressed my thoughts to Inc, particularly given that the 'skulls' thread comprised approx 2% of the total post count on Aulro, but as I see it for essentially no benefit.

Had I the power I probably would have nuked the complete thread, but if I could make them invisible it would nearly be as good.

I would have thought that any thread that garnered 2% of posts is obviously of benefit and interest to members.
Never did figure out why "skulls" got crucified and resurected as The Temple of Grockle or whatever, but sometimes I'm not the sharpest tack in the box.
Whilst I found it quite amusing and usually quite 'outside the box' I can understand that such a thread may not be favoured by forum purists. More importantly if its high post count is affecting the pleasure of other forum users then as Incisor says, change is due.
But to criticise as "of no benefit" I think is unreasonable. Figure out a way of sequestering the posts for example so that all can enjoy this forum is a much better idea.
One of the strengths of this forum is its diversity. To stifle this would be a backward step.

Yes well that is fine and that round the campfire scenario is best enjoyed when everyone around the campfire has consumed some social lubricant. Here on the net people participate without having been preconditioned to participate.

General chat is fine but even these threads can go off topic. Particularly as a couple of people who should probably be using the private message facility decide to let us all know how much they enjoy or not each others company and carry on a conversation that no one else really gives a fig about.

I think I would prefer a more flexible search criteria where you could add threads that you don't want to see or specific posters contributions that you don't want to trigger your "customised new post search".

That way you could all exclude my post if you so felt the need.

2% of posts, made up of 99% crap....stuff that belongs in PM's, not as a stand alone thread.
