Funnily enough, for me, the IIA trayback would be more useful.

Would you believe that after all the rain we've had, the IIA is dry inside - even though the rear cab sliding window is missing (smashed).

    Ahh,

a bit more of the story comes out - holden 6 with rover 6 available.

Thats like a bad toothache with with the option of an impacted wisdom tooth (or ingrown toenail ) thrown in.

Put a rover badge on the 2A and pretend it's a diferent vehicle. Get the series 3. You can then claim it is her aniversary gift but you know the faults this time.

    Get a bigger paper bag!

Realistically, there's only so many manhours in the day. If the SIII is ready to go and the SII isn't and aint gunna (sorry poor English) get there, pass it one to someone who can get it there and go the SIII. Geez that hurt.
Holden red engines were a pretty common mod back in the old days. I'd see them often in the bush, boiling their guts out on the top of hills and big end rattles at the bottom of 'em. If the idea is to take the SIII with the Holden engine off road pay a bit of attention to the cooling and use an extended oil pick-up and modified or marine sump. but if your'e into old Landys I guess you already know this.
The other problem is the lack of a gear as Banjo's found out. Me, if I had the time and inclination I'd stick with the SII.

    Ahhh! such decisiveness

I do have a set of genuine Stromberg carby adjustment tools (a relic from the halcyon days of owning a 1971 LC "2850" 4door, 4sp, GTR instrumented, "etruscan Bronze" Torana SL... ) let me know if they'd be useful..!

    Do you want it, John?

Having viewed the car and had a run in it, as a passenger because I can't drive at the moment, the car seems not bad.

It's a series 3 Safari station wagon with interior trim and padding and a Safari roof. It's only a five seater.

The Holden engine seems to run okay, the brakes are good. The gearbox is a bit sloppy in the gearchange. I didn't try the steering.

The car is currently on historic registration and this would have to be surrendered and then reregistered. So it would need inspection and a pink slip. Would it pass? It would depend on the inspector and whether they accept oil leaks from the transfer case.

The 2A would be more useful to me that this has the advantage of being a runner.

I'm still not sure but will let the guy know today.

Would you rather have a Holden presumably red engine or a 6 cyl LR overhead inlet side exhaust engine?
    Not a hard decision really.
