Baz I have put the KM2's in 235/85/16's on the D2 recently. I ended up going for these over the MTR's that I had on the Rangie because they were noisier and have changed the tread pattern and I don't like it.
They werent too far apart on price either. I haven't had them off road yet but they are queit on the road and seem to grip well in the wet. I haven't done many kays with them yet. (Maybe 1000?) but they seem really good.
I ended up paying $308 ea fitted and balanced for 5.

You know where i drove my Rangie and I plan on doing the same with the D2. The win in the 4WD Action test also helped sway me.

    Hope this helps

    Ive got 235/85 MTRs.
Treadware is pretty good,25000ks 3.5mm tread used.Ride is a tad harsh, but I prefer that to marshmallows.VERY good in soft sand, not as good as a muddie in the mud,235s have significantly less space between the tread blocks.Handle very well on gravel roads.Good on wet bitumen.
    Would buy again.
I dont think mine are the kevlar type.

Have heard good reports about the Federals, except they wear fairly quickly apparently. I was thinking about a set for my spare rims for trips only, as I'm sure they'd last a while that way.

What size tyre do you run Barry out of interest?

I to have been looking at either getting the KM2's or the new MTR's. I guess the only problem with asking this question is that neither of these two relatively new model tyres have been out that long that its likely one person would have had significant experience with both.

So I'll be interested to see if this thread gets close to coming to a conclusion that assists in making an informed decision.

    I hope it does.

    cheers,
    Terry

I don't really want to hijack the thread, but I have been offered some new Triangle tyres at a good price. Anyone have experience with these?

(I know, I know, ... round tyres would be better! )

Hey mate, I'm going back to 235/85/16, 265/75 are nearly 1 and a half KG heavier and takes a bit more power out of the car and when towing it's a killer on hills even with the chip, also they rub on the radius arms

Anyway thanks everyone, really appreciate the feed back, I have been leaning towards the KM2s, mainly because of the noise factor and the write up they got in the tyre test just recently.

We have gotten 44,000ks from the Bighorns, they are looking pretty bad and while wear was OK, they have performed very well, probably not the best in mud but then they are not a genuine mud tyre, I was really only disappointed with how noisey they were, It really started to get bad at around 20,000ks, the best thing about these tyres was NO CHIPPING.

We did do a fair bit of travelling last year, 48,000ks, amazing what a Cape trip will do to your yearly Ks

So time for a change, thanks again all.

    Baz.

    Hey Baz,

I will be interested to find out what you think of the KM2's. I'm still looking for some decent 16's for the D2 at a reasonable price, then chances are I'll go down the KM2 route, so your feedback would be appreciated.

Off topic for a moment I put some second hand 33" Baja Claws on the old D1 last week, geeze that makes for some interesting driving in heavy rain on the Freeway with them buggers fitted.

    Speak with you soon.

    cheers,
    Terry

I have KM2's fitted on my SVX.

nearly 17,000kms on them now. Minimal wear to the naked eye and works well in the mud and rocks (high country) and in sand did a Robe trip and didn't get bogged once.

I bought them because they were an improvement over the original KM's. These also won the tyre test the year before as well.

I have also had people ask me about them when I have stopped and I can truly recommend them! I previously had 56,000km (sold the car) on BFG All Terrains and there was still at least 20.000 to 30,000 kms left in them. They went through the Simpson on a 2 week trip and no troubles at all.

I would personally be buying them again without a worry. I would also read the tyre test on 4WD Action!
