And now for the REAL story...

RANGERS had to harpoon a massive salt water crocodile menacing tourists and locals near a popular fishing spot after efforts to trap the 5.5m beast failed.

The animal, which is missing one leg, caused a sensation in the small town of Borroloola, south east of Darwin, The Northern Territory News reports.

Borroloola shop owner Tegan Sauer, 22, said it was the biggest croc she'd seen for a while.

"He was pretty huge - he was curled around the trailer," she said.

"And that was a car trailer - not just a standard box trailer."

Ms Sauer said the saltie had been hanging around at the boat ramp.

"(Parks and Wildlife) set a trap but he wouldn't go in it," she said.

"He was too big. They had to harpoon him."

Big fella, heaps of steaks from that tail
Stink perhaps? Look at how the girl (Tegan?) is holding her nose.

So, it died because it was scaring the tourists.
