    OI!!

My mate has one of those. They even have an Extra Low in the gear box Plus a big lever labeled FWD <--> 4WD .

I have seen that car go some interesting places. Even one time it had water over the wheels. Plus its also on gas, why?? I dont know its only a 1.4litre 4 banger.

    But I digress,

Wikepedia, aka encyclopedia by consensus, is hardly an authoritive source.
When refering to the number of wheels and the number of driven wheels convention has it that the number of wheels comes first. So you can have a 4X4, a 4X2 and a 6X4 but not a 2X4 or a 4X6.
As far as a 2X4 is concerned this is an American piece of timber. For some strange reason yanks say 2X4 instead of 4X2. Probably being politically correct and not wanting to offend Jews or something. Quite happy to blow your country to smithereens though as long as they don't offend your sensibilities.

I think you may find this was because of the Disco's Traction Control (TC). TC is where sensors detect a spinning wheel and then apply braking to that wheel, causing the open diff. to apply drive to the grounded wheel. Landys come standard with open diffs.
To check whether you have a LSD, jack up one end of the vehicle so that both wheels are off the ground and spin one wheel. If the opposite wheel spins in the same direction you have a LSD, if it spins in the opposite direction you have an open diff.

They did release stickers: "The Best 4x4xFar", "the head heart and soul of 4WD" and "Australia's Most Awarded 4WD"

Well I’m happy to see that just about everybody else is as confused as I am.

Ultimately, there is seems to be no criteria for determining what is a true 4x4 and what is a taxi being called a 4x4.
