I read the title of this thread and thought:

we had another injury this week a woman hit her head on the roof after going through a washout and had to be airlifted off the island. back packers again
frazer island is only 40 mins away for me and is a great place for a wkend but soon enough it will be pro tours only if we keep haveing trouble over there. the hire companys are shocking with who they rent cars to. i follwed a troopy down freshwater road last weekend just waiting for it to tip over as others have said fully loaded with japs no idea of how to load or drive a 4wd. i was going down to see the high tides with the tsunami warning, they still headed off down 40 mile beach at high tide in soft sand like a charging bull. i just wonderd were they thought they could go the ferry at tewantin was closed so getting off the north shoar wasent going to happen.

I guess that it is time for the authorities to start regulating the rental companies.
