    GPS antenna for laptop

    Im now doing the GPS on a laptop thing after my interest was re-ignited with austastar showed me what he had. Problem with my GPS is that, whist its perfect for road use, the screen is small and trying to read topographical maps on a 3" screen is not good!

    So question is, what gps antenna would uit a laptop via USB? Can you believe that JB-Hifi, Dick Smiths and other electronics store have NO gps antenna's like these! Guess they dont want to loose sales in GPS units...

    Anyway, dont want to spend loads, under $100 for a no frill job will do me, and also any links to sites that sell them as ill be buying online (like this? http://www.ja-gps.com.au/Haicom/hi-204iii-usb-gps/)

    Hi,
    I got mine from GPSOz, good crew to deal with and they really know their stuff.

    This is the one I have, and yes, it is just under $100.

    All it does is give you the sentences from the satellites, which Ozi Explorer uses to plot your position and thus create .plt files.

    This little puck GPS is way more sensitive than my Garmin e-trex.
    It has held a plot in the underfloor car park in Coles Sandy Bay, where as the e-trex will drop the signal if you pass under wet trees.

    I use a AVLabs one

    AVL980..via blue tooth so no cord.....
    Techoni Mobile Phones Australia

    Used with Ozi Explore on a HP Mini note book.

    Quite happy with it, charges via usb or cig/power socket.

    I have the same BU-353 as the other guys, I bought it off Ebay a few days ago for under $50 and use it with Oziexplorer and GooPs (Google Earth). So far I'm very happy with it, the reception is excellent and I've picked up the satellite indoors.

    Not all GPS navigators have NMEA out (the data sentences from the satellites that allow Ozi (and GPS units)to calculate where you are)
