    African Maps

Can anyone point me in the right direction to obtain some cheap (free) maps of Africa suitable for a Garmin Map60csv or OziExplorer?

    Countries of interest are:
    • South Africa
    • Namibia
    • Zimbabwe
    • Tanzania
    • Kenya
Desired scales would be something for overall route planning plus something around 1:250,000 or less, 1:100,000 wiuld be good.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Roger,
    Checkout Tracks4Africa and Fugawi.

Not sure about comparability with your particular gps but I think Tracks4Africa will be uploadable to it via Mapsource.

tracks for africa is excellent, we have used it regularly. shows lots of tracks that the paper maps don't, leading to interesting places that you wouldnt otherwise find. i think they are 1:25000 will check out the details after work.
also run 'Garmap Africa Series 2011' which covers street maps and topo for all the countries from south africa to zambia/angola/malawi mozam etc.
There is also a map buy the same guys called 'Garmap East Africa Streetmaps' and this is tanzania kenya uganda.
not sure of the prices though, from memory T4A was very reasonable, and the most useful.
when will you be over there?

    cheers

Thanks Guys. We'll be there from 10th July to 1st September.

Looks like T4A on SD card is about AUD$100 so not too bad price wise and sounds like it has good coverage - interested to know the scale. Got a friend who's going over next month (March), returning before I leave and travelling much the same areas so we might be able to share the cost .......... there's the Scottish blood surfacing again.

BTW, does T4A cover all the countries I mentioned in original post?

Just two days of flying left in order to get back to Australia.

Thanks again for all the recommendations re maps.
The T4A mapset was great but we did manage to find a few areas where tracks (and a few major roads) were not listed ................ but I guess it is Africa we're talking about here.

I logged every days travel + a few walks so have a good record of our route.
