    DISCO 4 - NAVIGATION UPDATE

I have a 2012 Disco 4 and am aware there is a map update (03/2011) available from Land Rover. They want to charge around $800 which is highway robbery if it is just map updates and no additional functionality (red light camera & speed alerts, etc). Has anyone had this update installed and if so does it include more than just the map update.

    Nifty

    D4 Map Update

Just spoke to a local dealer about the map update. Cost is $460 but said don't do it as:
    a) A new update is about to be released, and
b)It will only be an update of the maps - no new functionality such as you can get from a portable GPS.

His advice was to not bother!

I just brought a Hema HN6. I will not pay $460 for a map update. This is pure highway robbery.

    Sat Nav in RRSport

Are land rover having a laugh at me. I have a 3 month old RRS.
And the sat nav system is practically useless in the Australian Outback. It's great around all cities. But there are 3 problems with it.
    1. The maps are out of date by about 2 to 3 years.
    2. On freeways at "road crossovers" (the small ones), as I'm approaching them it says turn right and then turn immediately turn left - if I do that I'm going to go into the path of oncoming traffic. It needs up dating now, before someone is killed!
    3. Offroad maps. What is off road? Luckily we have an iPad with Hema maps, which were brilliant in the outback, as the Rangie frequently didn't know where it was- it didn't know many outback roads. ie. Didn't know the Birdsville developmental road -etc.

Contacted Range Rover and they said to contact the dealer. The dealer was no help.

If you sell a MY2012 car for the money you should get a reasonably up to date sat nav map- other car manufacturers do. It is an off road car, and it ought to have a proper off road sat nab system, it is a JOKE!

    Dear Dan

Thank you for contacting Sensis and apologies for the delay response.
Unfortunately, we are in the process of negotiating for a new map version compatible with Range Rover Discover/Sports/Vogue vehicles with the Navigation manufacturer.
We have been advised that it’s most likely Land Rover will now skip Version 17 & 18 and release Version 19 and will be released early / mid next year. The release date is being negotiated between Land Rover and the navigation system vendor and not controlled by us.
Version 16 map updates is the current update for Discovery 3 vehicles, unfortunately we are currently out of stock on this item. Please continue to visit our website www.whereismaps.com regularly for further information/availability on upcoming release dates on our map updates.
Thank you for your time and apologies for any inconvenience.
Please do not hesitate to contact us on: 1800 819 471 should you require further assistance or have further enquiries,
    Kind Regards

I can see you are upset, but this one is a bit over the top. There is an obligation to obey the road rules, signs and common sense rather than slavish obedience to the sat nav. Anybody killed by this error can only blame the driver!

    Of course you are right

Fred- I'd be stupid to do as it says- I just use it as background info- and for that it's good. But the maps are really out of date as suggested. I'll have to wait until 2014/5 now.

My apologies for being overexcited again.

For the record, I too that that issue with my late 2014 build Disco ... and it happened, because I had engaged the off road maps. Hence it wanted me to get off the freeway.
