I think so, along with things like null modem adaptors, serial cables, USB cables, Bluetooth USB adaptors, CF & SD cards, card readers etc.
as long as the gps output nmea sentences you'll be ok.
btw - they all do so no dramas.
re laptops - i had to look for a long time to find one with a serial port.
finally brought a compaq nx9040. only one around.

Not all GPSRs output NMEA. Some, like the base model Magellan eXplorist and Garmin Geko do not have any external data ports at all. These are definitely best avoided. Serial-USB converters work well so there is no need to have a dedicated serial port.Originally posted by crossy
