We have current Garmin GPS units in all 4 cars, and they all warn when over the limit. I also have ones for the US and Europe, and they do the same.
Just make sure you get a XXXLMT model as the LMT indicates lifetime map and traffic updates.
I love them and they have saved me many times when I'm not sure what the speed limit should be.

    In iOS try metroview

If you have an iPhone, there is an app called metroview that does this, with fully configurable notifications.

Doesn’t have every road once you get to the country, but there don’t seem many missing, and you can notify them from within the app of correct limits, or errors.

not sure what current pricing is, but I paid $25 over 5 years ago, and I’m sure last time I heard it was way below that now, and I got (real) lifetime licences with constant map updates.

It could be a tad late if it fires off once you have gone over though.
Mazda's fires off an alarm beep 10km/hr before the limit is reached so you have prior warning. Oi loikes that.

They give you 3% variance so your 5% is now 2 which is still under .
