oziexplorer ce on pda

Exactly whay mine stays on the charge in the car and soon will mount a usb header to power it off the battery instead of via a usb cigi adapter, one way to aleviate this is to put a copy of Ozi on your sd/cf card so its easy to relaod if needed. A bigger screen is ideal but the mounting becomes an issue, carputer is the next step.

You can back up your pda through actisync onto you desktop or laptop and there is also a backup program that backs up to a sd or cf card installed in the pda. I use both of these options at times. no need to keep the pda on the charger all the time. About all I need to do is reset the date and time.

Well that is bloody brilliant, I have gone the laptop down to small screen and then I thought, why not go to a pda jees I hope this doesn't turn to s#!T. The pda is not cheap:angel:

If it makes you feel better, the PDA was okay for street level navigation, where road intersections are close, but in the bush, where the intersections are further apart, it's impossible to see the wider picture.

At least you can use it in town.

I got a new battery off ebay for $15 and that helped but still if its not used for 2 weeks or more it goes flat. I only use mine in the car so i just leave it in the mount on charge with the gps attached, if i want a larger screen then i can use the gps with the laptop - once stopped of course !
I did see on ebay a large screen (8.4") pda that would be ideal.

The other thing that is a bit strange with the pda. Why has it got such limited memory when an ipod has 30Megabytes?:(

I managed to pick up a bargain 2nd hand Toughbook. It has a touch screen, which is good for panning across maps, and smaller than a laptop. The screen folds back flat over the keyboard, so I use 2 velcro straps to attatch the keyboard to the lid of the centre console, then fold the screen over the top. I can look down on it, ot swivel the screen so that it faces toward me at an oblique angle. Or my navigator can fold the screen up to view it.

I also keep music as MP3s on the toughbook and play it through the radio via an FM transmitter. There are also workshop manuals in the harddrive, and the tough book has wireless capablilties.

I haven't yet, but I could load some movies for the kids to watch too.

The tooughbook is military spec vibration, dust and water resistant, so it's a match for the Defender.

I think you mean gig, ipods have from 1 gig in the shuffle up to 60 or 80 gig. Yes a hdd and usb port would be very handy in a pda.

If you want something slightly bigger than a PDA but not as big as a Laptop you can get a UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) that runs Windows Mobile OS and can therefore run OZI CE

For example, HTC's one... don't think there is any UMPC's on the market in AUS yet though.

Thanks for picking up the deliberate mistake loanrangie, I told you I was a computer cretan. But you did pick up the jist, 80gig ipod, even a 10gig pda running windows 5 would enable us to run ozi.:twisted:
