I've been having a play too
I decided to get rid of the CE button altogether. It's easy enough to access FileManCE through the tools button.
The navigation programs is what this is all about anyway.

Just had a play.
Select: Tools
Then: FileManCE
You now have WindowsCE "Explorer".

I have found the 7" GPS I got suxs in the way it runs Wince - every time it loads - it will load the default setups from the firmware!!!! Any bloody changes I make get wiped each time the thing restarts!!!
So - stay away from the allied express one till I can figure out how to hack the firmware![]()

wince registry settings for USB connections & other custom changes.
Thinking I'll just have to setup the general menu & still have its launcher menu in the background.
Hi all.
I'm considering buying a garmin nuvi, the 5 inch 1490t and loading topo maps on to it.
Does anyone know how good they are off road with topo maps loaded. I know they are great on the tarmac.
I want something I can use on my daily drive as well as off road.
Or can someone suggest something else?
Thanks
Noogie
Noogie,
I had a play with the Garmin 1490T yesterday. Great road GPS but the 4wd maps were average to say the least. As a test I looked at Fraser Is. It showed the island ok but no tracks where I know there's major tracks.
Below is a standard map from shonkymaps (which will load onto a Garmin no problems). None of these tracks showed up on the 1490T loaded with Garmins 4WD maps.
