I'm running a L/R series 2A, with the standard 4 Cylinder petrol engine, albeit rebuilt, my question is "What is the purpose of the intermediate muffler....?
Is it a straight through muffler..? Or what"
I remember years ago, I ran my exhaust straight out the back, what I found was that the exhaust fumes were being sucked back into the vehicle..! So it is my intention to run it out the side, as per the original layout.

There is no intermediate muffler, according to the manual. Only a single at the rear.
There are 2 available, one for LHD and the other for RHD.
