Hello all I recently purchased a 1973 109” Ute with a 186 Holden motor installed the vehicle is a local car and has been registered with the Holden engine. That being said it was unregistered when I got it and hasn’t been registered for a number of years. The motor and mounts look to be professionally engineered and installed, has anyone been in this boat and how did you go with getting the car registered.

Yep, what he said. If it has previously been registered in Vic with that engine and that engine number is on their system, then no dramas at all. Just a RWC is all that is required.

Hello Gus
Unfortunately I haven’t got to that point as yet I am still trying to finish my daughters Series 3 Stage 1 project had some holdups and now health issues so you will beat me to it.
I believe if you contact Contact us WA they should be able to give you the vehicles history although in years gone by you didn’t have to get a roadworthy when you purchased a vehicle. If it was still registered you changed owners details and that was all. So if the car was registered and someone changed the motor it may not have been updated.
I hope this helps and good luck let me know how you get on.

Hopefully I am in the same boat
Bought a series 3 109 tray
Does anyone know if yo can keep the old plates that were on it when you go to register it.
Just that they are period correct.
Cheers

You would have to check with Vicroads, but I don't think you can - the plates are supposed to be handed in when rego is cancelled or not renewed, and it is almost certainly an offence to retain them. But you can probably get new plates with the same number provided it is not in use, although expect to pay more.

The only way you could keep the plates would be if you’d been the owner that had them registered previously, so if you’ve just bought it, then no. You could get custom plates made if that combination isn’t on VicRoads system, but you’d have to ask them.
