A hello and intro of 'Lady' a SWB Series IIA with Holden 186?

    Hi All,

Well after being a long time lurker of the forums, with some over zealous facebook marketplace-ing I've ended up with my first Landy. Sold to me as a 1964 Series IIa but judging on the G suffix in chasis number I'm thinking it actually might be a later 1969? Currently fitted with a Holden red engine which I think is a 186 or could be a 202? I've found an engine number on the rocker cover of 7437395 and couldn't locate a large 186 or 202 imprinted on the block as I've read in other posts?

Body panels are pretty straight and on my first daylight inspection today, the chasis appears really solid. The bulkhead is a bit different story though with rust in both footwells and down the side pillars near door hinges... not too sure how easily or economical this will be to repair, so any recommendations for repairers/fabricators in SE QLD would be much appreciated. Door tops are also pretty roasted - can see that these a replaceable with aftermarket/repro ones. Any recommendations as to who makes the most economical/best replacements?

Engine cranked over today with a new battery fitted, but I couldn't lure it into running with some fuel down the carby or a clean of the plugs so a trip to repco for new plugs, leads and start ya b**td will be in order once this most recent lockdown is over. Is it common to have fuel pump issues if left sitting for a while with these? Throttle cable is dangling in the wind at the moment so will have to work out how to reassemble and the wiring is a mess so very probable that is a cause of the no starting.. Clutch pedal was completely seized as well so I've removed the whole assembly and will be ordering a new master cylinder on Monday - Being on the Gold Coast landybitz.com.au looks to be just up the road, so will be giving those guys a go?

My plans for the moment would ideally be to get the old girl running and to enjoy it as a bit of a weekend beater/camper before going and throwing any significant money at it to semi-restore etc. Little in over my head at the moment and slowly coming to terms with the fact I've naively dived headfirst into landy ownership haha! Any input from guys that have 'been there and done that' would be much appreciated, in addition to what to attack first in order to get this thing back running and driving.

My partner has already affectionally named her 'Lady' the little old Landy - so much for not getting too attached....

*Edit - Have no idea why some of the pics are rotated sorry

Couple better photos of the wagon! Got some new plugs and still couldn’t get her started, checked for moisture in the dizzy and leads looked alright but I’m no expert.. will have to get a mechanic mate to come and give me a hand.

Got around to pulling the clutch master which was completely roached, gave the pedal box a clean up and lube - pedal hinge seems to move freely which is good. Will get a new master cylinder ordered, figure it might be worth doing the slave and also brake cylinder at same time.. Anyone have feedback on best/most affordable places to order from? Trying to keep to a pretty tight budget atm.219854475_375418650615476_5737712600940183531_n.jpg223947505_262803918653420_4619116007672792413_n.jpg229848423_789420245061021_555145637498240492_n.jpg227160691_2950066358609901_996026711790143518_n.jpg

Its chassis number indicates made between Apr 69 and Oct 71 - that will be when the chassis was stamped - as it was assembled by PMC in Sydney will have a later assembly date - after the big box of parts was shipped from the UK to Aust. Some parts may have been sourced locally - not sure if local content rules were in place at the time.

Chassis numbers were actually stamped in Australia, but I'm not sure whether they were allocated here. I suspect they got a shipment of 'X' kits, and an allocation of numbers to go with them.

And yes, there was a substantial proportion of locally manufactured parts by then. Hence you will find some differences in details and equipment from the home market ones.
