Hey all,
After sitting idle in a barn for 2 years I have started up the 168 engine again and a strong smell of petrol and a faint white smoke from the tail pipe has me thinking something is up with the carb. When in third gear driving down the neighbourhood street it sometimes hesitates and intermittently looses power like its running lean. I have also noticed some fuel (i think) leaking around the base of the manifold.
I am not familiar with Carbs and would like to ask you opinions on this matter.
Other things to note:
- The engine runs smooth when in idle, no ticks or knocks
- starts up straight away without using the choke
- 1st and second gear has no issues when driving
Here is a video of the tail pipe and a picture of the manifold where it looks like fuel is leaking from, but I have not investigated yet.

Thanks for all your help!
If it starts straight up without choke it may be running too rich - this would also make it smell like it does. Given its sat for 2 years I’d pull the car by off and give it a quick once over then tune it again, however I’d probably start with checking and tightening all the screw that hold it together and checking the nuts that hold it to the manifold. It’s not uncommon to see the Stomberg drip on the manifold but it’s usually when the gaskets dry out after a few years.
