    Weird problem with clutch/crankshaft.

    Hi all,

I swapped my Holden Red 186 which had just broken a valve spring and dropped a valve, for a "rebuilt and in awesome condition only driven a few hundred K's" Holden Black 202 only to find the clutch no longer worked.

When you press on the clutch pedal the whole pressure plate, flywheel and crankshaft moves away from the clutch bearing forward 2.5mm.

I took the sump off the engine to check the engine main/thrust bearing and found a 1.7mm gap between the crankshaft thrust face and the thrust washer. The thrust washer is only worn 0.2mm on the side in question.

Is this a worn crankshaft or has someone forgotten to put an extra thrust washer in place?

To me it could be both a worn crank and/ or block. You would need to get the dimensions between cheeks of the crank to know.
either can be metal sprayed but big job.
If the surfaces are parallel then maybe you cold get a spacer made from bronze.
Usually caused by clutch with uprated clamp force.
